I was fortunate to present with Adam Below, Howie DiBlasi and David Andrade today at Tech Forum NY. We shared a Google Doc at the morning session of the Web 2.0 Smackdown.
After the lunch break, Adam and I facilitated a session giving the participants time to show what tools they feel are useful in the classroom. The ideas started flooding in before we even met. They were coming in via Twitter, suggestions from the the morning group and folks that came to say hi after we were finished.
Here is the list of tools that was generated in our afternoon gathering:

Not only did Adam and I have fun sharing all of these tools with the attendees, but it was great to have folks share out what they like and how they use the tools for productivity and to help improve teaching and learning in the classroom.
Awesome info. Thanks! I just started using Tokbox.com for video conferencing in my class. It allows me to see up to 20 students (or web-cams) free, plus there’s no download or install required and its pc and mac compatible. Just send a link and it just works. My favorite part is that it allows me to collaborate and share files, like power-point, pdf’s, etc. (to share files it does costs $12.99/mo with a 30 day free trial.)
What have you used or recommend for video conferencing? I personally just don’t want students to see me, I want to see them too.
Thanks for your comment Nick.
I use Skype mostly, but I have also used Oovoo in the past.
Check out their site here: http://www.oovoo.com/home.aspx
Hi, Lisa!
I am a student at The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. I am a student in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class. I appreciate this blog post! I can’t wait to explore these sites more and discover ways to enhance my way of teaching in the future. Thanks for sharing!
I recommend checking out this following project:

Think of it as Evernote meets collaborative bookmarking meets sticky notes.
Thanks for the recommendation dwees! I hope you’re enjoying Glass.
If anyone is interested in trying Glass, visit http://writeonglass.com and enter “jennasaurus” (without the “”) as the invite code. Questions? Feedback? Shoot me an email at jenn[at]writeonglass.com
[…] I found this video, as I do with so many others, by simply following a link from Facebook from a friend Linda Thumann. Yesterday she attended a meeting called Web 2.0 Smackdown at TechForum. For more information see her blog post at https://thumannresources.com/2010/10/22/tltechforum/ […]
Thanks for sharing the link to Writeonglass! I hadn’t seen it before and will be checking it out.

Hey, the first tool Evernote is a great tool. It is a good way to keep all of your notes organized and it’s very simple to use. I realized that it was a good tool and I decided to see if you could possibly download it as a App on my Ipod touch, and I found out that you actually can and it works great. If you are a “bundled up student” and you happen to lose a lot of papers that you spend time writing in class you could just ask your teachers and if they allow you to you could use the App in class and just type out all the notes and save it in an organized folder, all on Evernote.
You have some great sites on this list. I love cooltoolsforschool and only2clicks. I experimented with pageflakes for my class internet start page but ended up with protopage. Guess I’ll have to check out the rest of your recommendations.
